Therapeutically Applied Tabletop Role-Play Games

Learning Objectives

·       Define what a tabletop role play game (TTRPG) is and differentiate them from other forms of play or structured activities used in therapy.

·       Describe at least three therapeutic benefits of role play games for youth and adolescents, such as improvements in social skills, emotion regulation, self-concept and problem-solving.

·       Identify ways TTRPGs align with evidence-based therapeutic models (e.g., CBT, narrative therapy, or strengths-based approaches)

·       Recognize key facilitation skills and ethical considerations when incorporating TTRPG elements into therapy, such as maintaining boundaries, and promoting safety and inclusion.

·       Demonstrate at least one practical strategy or activity using role play or storytelling that can be adapted for individual, group, or family sessions.

·       Practice facilitating or adapting a short scenario.

Location

Training is to take place at Family Solutions in Vancouver, Washington. We are located near Burton and 112th Ave. This is a live, in-person training and there will not be a virtual option available at this time.

Parking

There is free onsite parking. Please park in the back of the building and follow signs for the training. 

Lunch Options/Suggestions

FOOD:
  • Light snacks and drinks (coffee, tea, water) will be provided throughout the training. Feel free to bring your own snacks if you’d like!
  • Participants will be responsible for their own lunch; we do encourage you to bring your lunch due to the limited amount of time allotted for lunch break. There are microwaves available onsite. See below for a list of restaurants in the area, if you would like to grab food to go or eat out during your lunch break.

Please note - the Family Solutions building is a CITRUS FREE zone.

WHAT TO BRING:
  • Comfortable clothes, including a light sweater in case the room is cool.
  • Reusable water bottles, as there are several filling stations around building
  • Bring a curious & playful energy!

Lunch Options/Suggestions

*The training room has an attached kitchen with refridgerator, microwaves and basic utensils. You're welcome to stay on site for lunch. If you are planning to leave Family Solutions campus for lunch, consider these local options and return in time for the next instruction block.

This training does not provide participants with any official CE credits. Employees of Family Solutions may count Agency-Sponsored CEs and can talk with their supervisors about attending.

Training programs sponsored by the agency where a counselor is employed are acceptable if counselors:
1. Show the experience contributes to the advancement, extension and enhancement of the professional competence of the licensed marriage and family therapist, licensed mental health counselor and/or the licensed social worker; and 2. Limit the training programs to 26 hours per reporting period.
